About

The Full Story

I am currently a student at Southern New Hampshire University, College for America.  I take online courses because it is flexible and allows me to devote my time to helping educate my children.   I realize that in order to have a positive future for my family, I will have to obtain a college education.  I have a plan for my future.  And SNHU is helping me follow my goals that I have arranged in order to have a positive future.

Before I started my virtual college journey, I was a Learning Coach for my two girls who also attend a virtual school, with Georgia Cyber Academy, and K12.  Having my children in virtual school gives my husband and I the opportunity to teach our kids some important traits like responsibility.  We are bulldog owners, so as a family, we take care of our pets everyday.  That is a great hands on experience for teaching your children to take care of another life, and responsibility.

I was inspired by K12 to go back to college.   They gave all the Learning Coaches an opportunity to get educated, and  I took the advantage of that opportunity.  I applied for college over the summer last year, and got accepted with SNHU to start October, 2018.

Right before the term started, Hurricane Michael, wreaked havoc on our hometown.  Michael was still classified as a category 4 hurricane, however, some wind gusts were category 5 strength.  We live in the southwestern part of Georgia.  There have been hurricanes, but none of them were as serious as this one.  I have never experienced anything like that before.

Trees were snapped like toothpicks and majority or all of the power poles were down.  We were without power for 16 days, and without internet for 21 days.  It was a terrible experience, one I hope to never experience again.  I reported on that natural disaster for one of my courses, Science Methodologies, with SNHU.  I will add that link at the bottom.

Needless to say, I was late on getting started for that term, and the pressure was high.  I set a goal to complete 15 credits for that term, and I achieved that goal.  I put a lot of time in to ensuring that I met my goal.  All of my hard work and time paid off.

As of July 1, 2019, I started my third term with SNHU.  Prior to this term, I obtained 30 credits.  Now, I know how to complete the work, because I have had the chance to work with some amazing reviewers and tutors to help me achieve mastery in my coursework.  I have Mastered several upon my first try.  For this term, I have set a goal to complete 15 credits again.  So far, I have mastered 9 of 15 courses, and 1 month is not even up yet.  I have the potential and I am determined to succeed in life.

I an thankful to have found SNHU because they have helped me improve all of my computer skills like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.  I have conducted many successful research projects (I love to research and creating PowerPoint presentations).  I have also given interesting, recorded presentations.  I know that some of these skills will help me with my career.   I am looking forward to a positive, successful future!
